Jude Lane (b1968) is from the Far North Coast and now resides at Glen Innes, where she is a Visual Arts Teacher at Glen Innes High School. Jude has been painting since she was young and was taught by her mother, Jan Shaw International Decorative Artist. A lifelong natural yearning to create and teach led Jude to complete her Bachelor of Visual Arts and Secondary Education. In 2015 Jude won the Southern Cross Chancellor Art Prize, a painting acquired for the permanent art collection, the 2018 Nimbin Artists Gallery Art Prize, and a finalist in the Border Art Prize, 2019, 2021, 2022 selected artists in Saatchi Exhibition ‘The Other Art Fair.
Jude’s work has been a journey of self-discovery, a sanctuary to loosen the hold of conflict, pressure, and rejection. Sifting and separating through layers of conflict and understanding the innate emotions that have driven her as an individual resonates within her artworks. The lush earthly colours of Australia, the unique land formations, fauna, flora, and the rich layers of her family history captures and showcases her inner turmoil of raw emotion and feelings of clarity.
The collaboration of mixed media supports the journey of textured layers creating an organic, decorative landscape. Burnt patterning gives depth and a sense of motion, and inlayed Papua shell and stone draw the viewer’s attention and guide their gaze of understanding through the picture plain. Jude’s rich visual textures echo the intangible uniqueness of the Australian Landscape.
